Gregory Rawlins

Bio

gregory rawlins - test audiencesHailing from the lush and sodden Puget Sound, Gregory Rawlins spent most of his childhood climbing trees, building forts and popping wheelies. His love for beautiful country and low academic standards brought him to Eastern Oregon University, where, after a decade of careful planning, he is nearing his English degree. In 2003, Rawlins and his comrade Michael Surber decided that they would move to Seattle and start a band (Rawlins had, by then, learned three chords on the guitar and figured it was time). Almost instantly, the two met bassist E.J. “Trojan Horse” Sander, drummer Seth Johnson, and formed the rock band Sons of Guns. In 2004, the band cut a six-song EP “Need Less to Say,” and in 2007, (with percussionist Luke McKern) completed their first full-length album entitled “Clutch.” Building a respectable following along the West Coast, Sons of Guns have shared the stage with stand-outs Blitzen Trapper, Finn Riggins, Jared Mees and the Grown Children, Low Red Land and many other noteworthy folks. While still active with SOG, Rawlins has also been hard at work on solo musical endeavors, and in close collaboration with members from Test Audiences and City of Animals. 2008 was the release of his debut “The Amazing Circle of Boxes,” a hodge-podge of basement, barn, and garage recordings dating back to 2002, while this July 1st marks the arrival of the new 17-track album: “Fuggit, I’ll Bet a Hunnerd.” A tour is set to follow.

Rawlins admits that the past year has treated him well. He’s been to southern Idaho lava caves, five different hot springs, across the Olympic Nat’l Park coastline,  New Orleans and back by car, published for a fictional story, then rejected for its use of improper vernacular dialect; and tased.
